How to Pack Your Electronics
Besides the furniture, the next big objects to be moved is your electronics- TV, home theater system, DVD player, computers, digital cameras and so on. What makes packing electronics tricky is that sometimes they come with several cords, connections and other accessories. For example, if you pack your TV and forget the remote, it’s a tragedy.
Here are some tips to pack electronics.
TV: The screen is the most sensitive part of the item. Use soft cloth to cover the screen first, and then wrap it around with bubbles or other padding materials. As for the power cord, wrap it in bubbles so it won’t cause any damage to your TV during moving. Always pair the remote with TV- using a clear tape, attach a remote that is wrapped in bubbles to a corner of TV. If possible, consider wrapping the four tips of your TV by using styrofoam. If it’s not likely, make sure the insides of the box is very well padded. It’s important your TV does not have any room inside the box; if there is some free space, your TV will move during moving and it can cause dints.
Home theater system: The most important part of any home theater system is the speakers. They are prone to damages and need to be protected well. Using bubbles, wrap around the speakers to avoid any possible damage. After the moving, it can be confusing to re-install the home theater system if you don’t remember which cord gets connected to which input. Using a name tag, mark the cords and input areas so re-installment will be a breeze. Again, always pair up the remote to your home theater system.
Small electronic appliances: small items such as digital cameras and camcorders do not need extensive care. Due to their small sizes, it’s relatively easy to pack them; simply wrap the whole thing in bubbles! If you have kept the boxes at the time of purchase, it’s a good idea to use them. If not, just make sure any LCD screens are well covered. It’s also relatively easy to forget smaller accessories such as connection cable to PC. Always pair the accessories with the item.
With a little care, you can prevent damages for your electronics during moving and save time when you unpack. All it takes is lots of bubbles and little bits of attention.

How to Pack Fragile Kitchen Items: Dishes and Glassware
Packing dishes and glassware is a tricky endeavor especially because 1) Items are fragile, and 2) Items need to remain as clean as possible as it handles food. If one is not careful, what ends up happening after moving is that all the dishes and glassware have to be washed and dried. It is an unwelcome extra amount of work. Here are some tips to help efficient packing and moving dishes and glassware.
Get strong boxes and pad the insides. If the box is not durable enough, it won’t matter how many times the dishes are wrapped in bubble wrap. Inside a moving truck, this box will be placed among many other boxes and there will be movement. Getting a good container is the first essential step. Line the insides of the box with styrofoam or bubble wrap. Safety of the dishes and glassware comes first; don’t go stingy on the padding.
Use an extra help of covering. If the dishes go into the box padded with styrofoam and crumpled newspaper, they will have to be washed before being used. Put in a big plastic bag inside a padded box, and put dishes inside the plastic bag. When the box seems full, tie up the plastic bag to block any unwelcome material from getting to the dishes.
Between dishes, put in clean towel or bubble wrap sealed in a ziploc bag as padding. If one simply puts bubble wrap between the dishes, they will smell like plastic once they are taken out after the moving.
Carry really valuable items with you. Better safe than be sorry. If there are some items that’s fragile and expensive (ex: crystal bowls and fine china), it may be better to pack them separately and take them with you.
Let your movers know. Mark the box so it is clear: “caution- fragile.” Also make sure to indicate which side is bottom and up. It is good to mark the same thing on all four sides instead of just one. One can also talk to the movers to ensure which boxes need special attention.
Putting a little effort will go a long way and save one plenty of unnecessary work. Think and always try to figure out ways to simplify the moving process; efficient packing also means efficient unpacking.
